Dielectric strength of noble and quenched gases for high pressure time projection chambers

چکیده
Dielectric breakdown strength is one of the critical performance metrics for gases and mixtures used in large, high pressure gas time projection chambers. In this paper we experimentally study dielectric strengths several important chamber working gas-phase insulators over range 100 mbar to 10 bar, gap sizes ranging from 0.1to mm. Gases characterized include argon, xenon, CO2, CF4, 90-10 argon-CH4,90-10 argon-CO2and 99-1 argon-CF4. We develop a theoretical model voltage based on microphysical simulations that use PyBoltz electron swarm Monte Carlo results as input Townsend- Meek-like discharge criteria. This shown be highly predictive at pressure, out-performing traditional Paschen-Townsend Meek-Raether models significantly. At lower pressure-times-distance, Townsend-like an excellent description noble whereas provides accurate prediction insulating gases.

Dielectric Strength of Different Gases in GIS
SF6 is a gas with excellent dielectric properties and is commonly used in gas-insulated equipment. However it has the high global warming potential. Thus, the development of new gases or gas mixtures for GIS, GIL is strongly desired. For dimensioning the gas insulated systems the support insulators (spacers) are of special interest. Contaminations on the insulator surface can cause field distor...

Our objective was to study molecular processes that might be responsible for inert gas narcosis and high-pressure nervous syndrome. The classical molecular dynamics trajectories (200 ns) of dioleoylphosphatidylcholine (DOPC) bilayers simulated by the Berger force field were evaluated for water and the atomic distribution of noble gases around DOPC molecules in the pressure range of 1-1000 bar a...

The High density Projection Chamber (HPC)is a sampling calorimeter where shower conversion and detection is separated. It offers a simple and homogeneous large volume detector with an energy resolution of (10-11)%/h, an inherent resolution transverse to the shower axis of 100 um and an exceptionally fine granularity along the shower. The use of this detector in a colliding beam experiment will ...
متن کاملBiological effects of noble gases.
Noble gases are known for their inertness. They do not react chemically with any element at normal temperature and pressure. Through that, some of them are known to be biologically active by their sedative, hypnotic and analgesic properties. Common inhalation anesthetics are characterized by some disadvantages (toxicity, decreased cardiac output, etc). Inhalation of xenon introduces anesthesia ...
